'O Ke Ala Maluhia (Peaceful Pathway)

'O Ke Ala Maluhia, the peaceful pathway, is a program that brings peace to communities plagued by violence and hopelessness. AFY youth with strong characteristics of leadership, critical thinking, and a desire for peace in and between communities are selected and formed into a cohort. Many are gang-affiliated. Together, they travel outside Hawaii to experience a sense of peace they cannot find in other neighborhoods because of gang conflicts.

Through their travels, youth can explore and reflect on what peace means. They are also exposed to different cultures, ways of life, and ways of thinking. When they return home to Hawaii, they collaborate to create a special project designed to bring that sense of peace they experienced during their travels to their home community and promote peace with the younger generation who have a chance to be part of a future 'O Ke Ala Maluhia project, helping break the cycle of youth violence that impacts everyone
