Student Transition Convention

It's a BIG THING! Reaching 10,000 students statewide and helping them move on up from elementary to middle school. Every spring, AFY conducts the Annual Student Transition Convention on Oahu and the Neighboring Islands (Big Island, Kauai, and Maui) to ease their anxieties about transitioning from childhood to adolescence.

The program encourages a healthy transition for 5th and 6th graders as they experience the physical and emotional changes while coping with the uncertainties of growing up. The best thing about the convention? It reassures students that they're not alone, and that they matter very much! The STC helps students get off on the right foot and stay out of trouble as they navigate the minefield of early adolescence.

Dean of Hawaii entertainers, Frank De Lima, and American Idol celebrity, Jordan Segundo, guarantee a fun-filled convention. In 2008, the STC had 9,091 students from 118 public schools on their feet, laughing and cheering, as they focused on the choices and challenges of facing peer pressure, avoiding bullies, making friends, and adapting to changes in schools.

For venues, dates, and further information on the next STC, please contact Jane Tampon at 808-833-8775.
